Finally, we are a New Zealand company meaning unlike most other internet companies we follow and abide the Australia Privacy Act 1998 (Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) Guidelines.

You can filter based on specialities you are looking for e.g. Anxiety. As well as whether you want to see them in person or online. Learn more about each therapist by clicking on their individual profiles. You can then see their real-time availability and request an available appointment directly on their individual profile page.

How do I book therapy / counselling appointments with a therapist on Clearhead?

If your employer uses Clearhead to provide funded therapy for their employees. All you have to do is select the therapist you want and make a booking appointment request directly with the therapist. Don't forget to select the "My organisation will cover my therapy" option and enter your employer details on the booking form. This usually means that your therapy session will be free and paid for by your employer.

Clearhead will manage the payment to the therapist anonymously on behalf of your employer once we have determined you meet our eligibility requirements. We will send you an email to confirm this.

How does the Clearhead for Business therapy scheme work, where my employer pays for my therapy?

Clearhead follows strict guidelines about the therapists we accept onto our database and they must be currently registered to one of the following professional bodies:

Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency

Australian, New Zealand & Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA)

Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA)

Christian Counsellors Association of Australia

We are a proud New Zealand owned company and our team is based in NZ and Australia.

Where are you based?

Our CEO and co-founder is a medical doctor, our Product Owner is a Clinical Psychologist, and we collaborated closely with Psychiatrist, GPs, Psychologists and users of mental health services throughout the design and implementation of the platform.

We also have a clinical advisory board that comprises of psychiatrists and GPs.

They apply a form of psychology that draws on creative process – including visual arts, music, drama, dance/movement, and writing – to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Therapists in the Clearhead network practice many different types of therapies, which they often mentioned in their bios. We've chosen six of the most common therapy types for you to filter by, which are described below.



A type of talking therapy where you learn coping skills and focus on how your thoughts and beliefs affect your feelings and actions.

These are talking therapy approaches grounded in mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way to intentionally focus your attention on present experience in a non-judgemental way.

This approach is about understanding what has happened to you and your family, rather than focusing on what's wrong with you. It involves being aware of potential trauma triggers and not going there until you’re ready.

An approach to talking therapy where you learn to stop avoiding inner emotions and accept that they’re understandable reactions to challenge. It also incorporates mindfulness and personal values into action-orientated change.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

A type of therapy designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories or disturbing life experiences. It involves focusing on these memories, while engaging in side-to-side eye-movements, and processing what arises in your mind and body.

In a broad sense, it’s a talking therapy approach that brings to awareness the psychological forces underlying your behaviour and feelings in connection to your early experiences. It focuses on the relationship between conscious and unconscious motivation.

This approach emphasises growth and self-actualisation, rather than curing disorders. It focuses on your personal worth and values to free yourself from unhelpful beliefs, so you can live a fuller life.

What are the different types of therapy (i.e., modalities) that Clearhead therapists offer?

A psychologist is primarily a talking therapist and, in some contexts, they also administer psychometric tests (e.g., an IQ test). 

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health and prescribes medication as treatment. In some cases, they also offer talking therapy.

You can find clinical psychologists and psychologists alongside the other talking therapists available in the Clearhead network. However, we do not have psychiatrists in our network as they rarely offer talking therapy and are already relatively accessible in public and private health systems.
