Clearhead for Therapists

The following therapy professions are available on Clearhead.

They work with you to make sense of mental health and neurological (brain) problems. They offer practical psychological tools and support the processing of underlying trauma. They tend to be scientifically driven in the way they think.

They facilitate change through listening and helping you become aware of what’s happening to you. They practice different types of therapy, which can be similar to those practiced by psychologists or psychotherapists.

They provide an opportunity to understand who you are, and how to make sense of your experiences and relationships to others. They tend to be more philosophical or artistically driven in the way they think. They seek to understand the effect of early trauma and relationships.

In New Zealand they are ACC-approved rongoā [traditional Māori healing system] practitioners. Rongoā comprises many different techniques including (but not limited to), mirimiri (bodywork), rākaurongoā (native flora herbal preparations), karakia (prayer), and kōrero (conversation).

They apply a form of psychology that draws on creative process – including visual arts, music, drama, dance/movement, and writing – to improve mental health and wellbeing.

What are the different therapy professions?

A psychologist is primarily a talking therapist and, in some contexts, they also administer psychometric tests (e.g., an IQ test). 

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health and prescribes medication as treatment. In some cases, they also offer talking therapy.

You can find clinical psychologists and psychologists alongside the other talking therapists available in the Clearhead network. However, we do not have psychiatrists in our network as they rarely offer talking therapy and are already relatively accessible in public and private health systems. 

What is the difference between a psychologist and psychiatrist? 

Therapists in the Clearhead network practice many different types of therapies, which they often mentioned in their bios. We've chosen six of the most common therapy types for you to filter by, which are described below.



A type of talking therapy where you learn coping skills and focus on how your thoughts and beliefs affect your feelings and actions.

These are talking therapy approaches grounded in mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way to intentionally focus your attention on present experience in a non-judgemental way.

This approach is about understanding what has happened to you and your family, rather than focusing on what's wrong with you. It involves being aware of potential trauma triggers and not going there until you’re ready.

An approach to talking therapy where you learn to stop avoiding inner emotions and accept that they’re understandable reactions to challenge. It also incorporates mindfulness and personal values into action-orientated change.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

A type of therapy designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories or disturbing life experiences. It involves focusing on these memories, while engaging in side-to-side eye-movements, and processing what arises in your mind and body.

In a broad sense, it’s a talking therapy approach that brings to awareness the psychological forces underlying your behaviour and feelings in connection to your early experiences. It focuses on the relationship between conscious and unconscious motivation.

This approach emphasises growth and self-actualisation, rather than curing disorders. It focuses on your personal worth and values to free yourself from unhelpful beliefs, so you can live a fuller life.

What are the different types of therapy available?

Therapy sessions can be funded in multiple ways:

Your employer - your employer needs to partner with Clearhead to deliver EAP support.

Who funds the therapy sessions? 

If your employer uses Clearhead to provide funded therapy for their employees. All you have to do is select the therapist you want and make a booking appointment request directly with the therapist. Just select the option "My employer will cover my therapy" and enter your employer details on the booking form. This usually means that your therapy session will be free and paid for by your employer. 

Clearhead will manage the payment to the therapist anonymously on behalf of your employer once we have confirmed that you meet our eligibility requirements. We will send you an email to confirm this.

How does the Clearhead for Business therapy scheme work, where my employer pays for my therapy? 

Clearhead is a paid therapy service. You can either pay for your sessions yourself, or, if your workplace is registered with Clearhead, they can pay for you.


The cost varies from $100 to $350 per hour depending on your  therapist. You can see each therapist’s rate on their profile.

How much does therapy cost? 

All of our therapists are currently registered with a Australian professional membership body. These include:

Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency

Australian, New Zealand & Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA)

Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA)

Christian Counsellors Association of Australia

How are Clearhead therapists verified? 

You’ll receive an email once your therapist has confirmed your appointment. If your appointment request needs to be rescheduled, your therapist will get in touch with you directly.

How do I know if my therapy session has been confirmed? 

Clearhead provides therapy both in person and online, based on your preference. If you book an online therapy session, your therapist will contact you directly providing with a link to their preferred online session platform. This could be Zoom, Google Meets, phone call, etc.

Can I get online therapy?

You can still make a request for therapy. Just enter your preferred date and time date in the booking form. If you need help, you can email 

 and we help you with the booking process.

What happens if my chosen therapist doesn't have any time available?

Let your therapist know that it’s free for them to join Clearhead’s therapist network. If they do, and meet our requrements, you can continue sessions with your chosen therapist and have it covered by your employer. You’ll also need your employer to partner with Clearhead to deliver wellbeing support.

What happens if I’m seeing a therapist who isn’t registered with Clearhead, but I want my appointments to be covered by my employer? 

Our booking system is very simple and user-friendly. However, if you are not comfortable using an online booking platform, then you can contact us on either

Can I get help to book a therapy session? 

You can change your therapist whenever you want, Clearhead has more than 250+ therapists that you can choose from.

Can I change therapists? 

We don’t collect payments for your therapy sessions. Your therapist will provide payment instructions. If therapy is funded by your employer, we will manage payments on your behalf.

If I’m self-funding my therapy, do I pay my therapist through Clearhead? 

Our booking system is designed to be user friendly and easy to operate.

You can filter therapists based on the help you want (I.e. to find an expert in dealing with Anxiety), or if you want to see them in person or online.
