Alison is Registered Psychologist with a long history in health services. She was initially trained as a Registered Nurse, then an Endorsed Midwife prior to completing her degree in psychology. Her training in the diverse areas of health allow her to integrate the knowledge and experience over a long career to provide a client- centred approach which can help clients improve their wellbeing, relationships and lived experience. Alison is particularly interested in trauma and how it can affect all aspects of a person’s life. This includes relationships, substance use, emotional health and wellbeing, employment and overall mental health. As a registered psychologist Alison has worked for Queensland Health, engaging with clients and their families with serious mental health challenges. During this time, Alison was lucky enough to gain valuable experience working with older persons mental health, child and youth mental health, forensic mental health and acute care services. In her private practice, she has provided counselling for adults who experience difficulties due to workplace issues, trauma, health, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, grief and loss, substance use disorders, eating disorders, and stress related issues. Alison currently works as a psychologist in Brisbane, providing therapy to adults. She is especially interested in working with clients who experience trauma and uses Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She also uses hypnotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy.
